It is with great sadness that I share with you the news that 2019 Almont High School Graduate, Austin “Robbie” Battani, passed away in an automobile accident this weekend.
The death of a member of our school community can be very difficult for students. It is for that reason that we will have a number of certified counselors join our own counselors, Ms. Frederiksen and Ms. Caporuscio, in supporting our students at the middle school and high school tomorrow. In the coming days we will continue to provide support forthose students who may need it.

Young people may react to this death in a variety of ways,none of which are wrong. Those who knew Robbie or his siblings may feel sad, confused or even angry. Some may find they are having difficulty concentrating on schoolwork, sports or activities, while others may find that concentratingon these things is a good distraction. Students may feel guilty for being excited about the end of the school in light of this event. Even students who had no association at all with Robbie may find themselves upset and reminded of other tragedies in their own lives. It is important to understand that all ofthese responses are normal and typical for young people.

We have also included a list of common behaviors of young people confronting grief. We hope you find this resource helpful. Along with these materials, please know that the staff of our school district is available to support you and your student’s needs.

Sadly, we lost one of our loved ones this weekend. Robbie Battani (Rene’s 3rd oldest) was involved in a fatal car crash early Saturday morning. Please keep Rick, Rene, and all of their kids in your prayers. They could use an abundance of strength and support right now. I have just gotten the funeral arrangements so I am posting them below. Thank you 🙏❤️

Though our words can do little, we hope our thoughts and prayers will encourage you this period and always as you mourn, the passing soul.
