Dan Prial was a great human being and friend. I wish I could express just how much his friendship meant to me, but I’m not very good at these types of things. I am deeply saddened by his loss and my heart aches at the thought that I will never get to share a beer or watch a game with him again. My condolences go out to his family and all of the people who were lucky to have known him. Goodbye brother, see you on the other side.

“That’s the kind of guy you want your sister to marry.” Those were the words I spoke to my son, Jack, in September after a round of golf with Dan Prial at Genesee Valley Park.
Dan was playing solo and asked to join us that day. In the ensuing four hours, my son and I quickly bonded with this young man. Dan had just moved to Rochester for a new assignment in the National Guard. We learned he was a West Point alumnus and graduated with our second cousin, Patrick Finnerty. We learned of his tour in Afghanistan. And by helping fellow human beings was the true meaning of his service.
In turn, we shared with Dan the great places to visit in Rochester, restaurants, and other golf courses as he navigated his new surroundings during a pandemic. Jack and Dan shared stories of their puppies. Dan was excited for his new chapter.
It was only four hours on a Sunday morning. But I immediately knew we met someone special. Thank you for your service, Dan. Heaven has a new angel.
