Friends, I’m so sad to share this morning that Pepe’s Pizza owner Gary Bimonte has passed away. A family member confirmed the news to me a few moments ago. Gary was the grandson of the legendary Frank Pepe, founder of Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napolitana and uncle of Sally’s Apizza founder Sal Consiglio.
I had the pleasure of meeting Gary several times over the years and he was always so warm and kind. The tributes are already pouring in across social media. He was so clearly beloved. May he rest in peace. ❤
A sad day for New Haven Apizza. We have lost our friend Gary Bimonte Co-owner of Pepe’s Pizza last night to a heart attack. Gary was a good friend to our movie and was so proud of his pizzeria(s) and New Haven. Such a positive force. We will miss you Gary.
#BREAKING Sad news .. Pizza legend Gary Bimonte, the co-owner of Pepe’s Pizza has passed away. Police say he died from a heart attack. Pepe’s was founded in 1925 by Frank Pepe. Bimonte, Pepe’s grandson, has operated the pizzeria with his siblings and cousins since the 90s. WTNH News 8
